Technique is one of goalunited's newer stats. The Technique skill is visible in the squad list. This does not influence the Ø (average strength), however it directly boosts your players' performance in every official match. Managers who maintain high Technique across their squad have a consistent, compounding advantage.
Technique is a dynamic individual value on a scale of 1–100 (extendable to beyond 100 with special cards) that represents how cleanly and consistently a player executes their actions: passing, tackling, keeping, playmaking, and scoring.
It acts as a percentage bonus on the player's primary skill during a match. The effect only applies in live play; you will not see it in squad overview stats or the strength column. You will see it in match reports, individual player statistics, and live ticker events.
Technique Range | Effect |
1–20 | No bonus (below minimum threshold) |
21–99 | Progressive % bonus to primary skill — small at 21, meaningful at 60+, substantial at 90+ |
100 | Maximum standard bonus |
101–115+ | Unlocked via special cards — bonus continues to grow beyond 100 |
The Technique training program is found in the General training section. It provides steady growth and is the primary way to raise Technique proactively.
Progress only up to age 31 — players 32+ receive no Technique gains from training.
Players with Morale 80+ receive a training gain bonus.
Players with Morale 30 or lower cannot gain Technique at all.
Technique also grows from playing time in official competitions:
Competition | Formula | Example (90 min played) |
League match | Minutes ÷ 120 × 0.16 | +0.12 per 90 minutes |
Cup match | Minutes ÷ 120 × 0.28 | +0.21 per 90 minutes |
International Masters | Minutes ÷ 120 × 0.18 | +0.135 per 90 minutes |
Extra Technique is also awarded for scoring a goal (+0.05 per goal) and for winning a match by 3+ goals (small bonus to all starting players).
This is the critical management dimension. Technique degrades from two separate sources, training absence and match absence, and both run simultaneously:
Absence Duration | Penalty |
After 7 days without Technique training | Instant −0.500 drop |
Each additional day after that | −0.025 per day |
Counter resets when? | As soon as Technique training resumes for even one day |
Absence Duration | Penalty |
First 11 official matches (no appearance) | No match-absence penalty yet |
12th consecutive match without playing | Instant −0.700 drop (on the 12th) |
Each match beyond 12 (still not playing) | −0.05 per missed match (stacks, up to additional −0.500) |
Beyond 22 consecutive matches | Heavy additional loss per missed match |
Counter resets when? | Player enters the pitch even once (bench does not count); also resets to 0 at start of each new season |
Yellow card received in an official match — instant reduction.
Red card (direct) — larger instant reduction.
Injuries — Technique training pauses during injury; no gains are possible while injured.
Technique is visible in three places:
Player detail screen — shown in the visualised skills pentagon alongside the five core skills.
Squad overview — a Technique column is available.
Team → Training → Individual Values — select the Technique filter to see each player's current value and their progression graph over time.
Focus Technique training on your starting eleven, particularly players in high-impact positions like strikers, central midfielders, and your goalkeeper. A striker's scoring Technique directly improves their goal-scoring efficiency; a keeper's Technique reduces the opponent's conversion rate.
Players aged 32+ receive zero Technique gain from training. They will hold their current Technique value from playing time alone.
The match-absence counter (for the 12-match penalty) resets to zero at the start of each new season. This gives a natural window to reintroduce bench players who may have accumulated a penalty near the end of a season.
Cup matches are the most efficient way to maintain Technique across your whole squad. They give the highest per-minute Technique gain (+0.21 per 90 min) and keep the match-absence counter from triggering for bench and reserve players.
