Been away from goalunited for a while? A lot has been added and refined. This guide covers the most important changes you need to know about, a quick checklist for getting your club back in shape, and pointers to deeper guides for each topic.
Technique is a new dynamic individual stat (1–100) that provides a percentage boost to a player's primary skill during matches. It does not appear in the squad strength column; it only affects actual live match performance.
Technique grows through the Technique training program (General training slot) and by playing official matches.
It decays if a player misses training for 7+ days (−0.5 instant, then −0.025/day) OR misses 12+ consecutive official matches (−0.7 instant).
Players over 31 receive no Technique gains from training.
Check each player's Technique value at Team → Training → Individual Values.
Morale is now a detailed stat (1–100, extendable to 105) that directly affects in-match skill efficiency. A player at 'Abysmal' morale (1–20) suffers a 15–25% skill penalty; 'Very Good' (90+) gives a +6–10% bonus.
Morale resets to 'Okay' (48–68 range) at the start of every new season.
It grows from playing time and winning matches; it falls from sitting on the bench too long (3+ consecutive missed official matches), losing streaks, cards, and injuries.
Manage it with Workshop training, morale cards, and regular rotation.
During the first half of any official match, the Halftime Instructions tab in the Live Ticker lets you make substitutions, move players to different positions, change tactics and marking, and reassign set-piece roles — all taking effect at the start of the second half.
2 free substitutions per match; further subs cost GU STARS.
2 free player movements per match; further movements cost GU STARS.
Tactic, marking, and role changes at half-time are always free.
Players now enter a retirement phase at age 34 and can choose to leave at any time before turning 38. You receive an announcement with the exact departure date and at least 7 days' notice. Skills decline roughly twice as fast in this phase.
Several powerful new card types have been added; see the Special Cards guide for full details. Key additions:
Surpasser card — unlocks all 5 skills for a player by +5 (up to 110 maximum).
Limit Breaker card — unlocks one specific skill by +1 (up to 110).
Versatility card — allows a player to train a second skill at full efficiency; awards XP unlocks after 5 rounds.
Masterclass card — random bonus to skill progression, limit unlocks, or form.
Prodigy cards — youth players aged 15–16 with pre-unlocked skill limits and fully trained talent.
Elite Training cards — position-focused training programs with higher main-skill ratios.
Morale Breakthrough cards — unlock morale cap above 100 for qualifying players.
Several new tactics are available, each requiring specific decoration buildings:
Defensive Fortress — requires Tactics Hub building. Strongest pure defensive tactic (22% defence bonus).
Rapid Counter-Attack — requires Tactics Hub Pro.
Wing Dominance — requires Tactics Hub Pro.
Pressing PLUS — requires 5 Wood Snake Monuments.
Precision Kick-and-Rush (PKR) — requires 5 GUFA Monuments.
Work through this list in order when coming back to the game:
1. Check your club balance — is it positive? If negative, sell a fringe player or renegotiate your sponsor immediately.
2. Renew any expiring contracts — look for blue-highlighted names in Team → Players. You have one week after expiry before a player leaves permanently.
3. Sign a sponsor if your slot is empty — this is your most important weekly income source.
4. Check player energy — it resets to 100 at season start but drains with matches and training. If you have been away mid-season, some players may be low.
5. Update your Standard formation preset — your squad has likely changed since you last set it.
6. Start running Technique training — all players will have decayed values after your absence.
7. Check player morale across the squad — any players who have not played recently will be low. Run Workshop training sessions and rotate them into cup or friendly matches.
8. Review staff motivation — staff members who have not had a pay rise lose motivation over time, reducing their effectiveness.
9. Rebuild team spirit — it resets to 50 each season and drifts back down. Win matches, and consider a Team Spirit training card if you have one.
10. Check tactic training levels — tactics decay each day slightly. If you have been away for weeks, your trained tactics may have dropped below 80%.
11. Audit your youth team — players age in real time. Any youth players who hit 21 will have auto-left. Scout replacements for vacated slots.
12. Review your stadium upkeep — buildings in poor condition reduce their effectiveness. Repair any that have fallen below good condition.
13. Set a training plan for the season — decide which tactics to maintain and which skills need priority based on current squad gaps.
